Wonder what Life Coaching is?
Life coaching is a practice with the aim of helping clients determine and achieve personal goals. Life coaches use multiple methods that will help clients with the process of setting and reaching goals. Coaching is not targeted at psychological illness, and coaches are not therapists nor consultants. Coaching is unlike therapy because it does not focus on examining nor diagnosing the past. Instead coaching focuses on effecting change in a client’s current and future behavior. Additionally, life coaching does not delve into diagnosing mental dysfunctions nor analyzing the past. What do I think? I think coaching is more than that. It is your whole life. I think a co-active coaching conversation is not about solving problems. Although, problems get solved. It isn’t primarily about improving performance, attaining goals, or achieving results, although all of that will certainly happen in an effective coaching relationship. I believe coaching is primarily about discovery, awareness, and choice.
As a coach I am interested in effectively empowering people to find their own answers, I will encourage them and support them on the path as they continue to make important choices. I believe my clients are strong and capable, and have a deep desire for something more, or sometimes less of something. People really do have the power of choice in their lives. Coaching is a conversation that takes place in that world.
I ask my clients over and over again “What do you want? “
People come to coaching because they want things to be different. They want to transition into a new career or they want more success in the career they are in; they want to discover themselves;they want to be happier in their work; they want more of what they want and less of what they don’t; they wonder what they want even. In general, they come because they want a better quality of life-more fulfillment, better balance, or a different process for accomplishing their life desires.
Coaching focuses on effecting change in a client’s current and future behavior. As a Life coach I use multiple methods to help my clients with the process of setting and reaching goals. Each person is unique and needs a different solution.
So how does it work?
A prospective client contacts and books a complimentary session and this session lasts about 45 minutes. We have an initial talk about coaching and we talk about what they want from this work. We coach on a topic of the clients’ choosing and I give the client some homework around it. Homework is a way to take the coaching from talk to action. The greatest growth in a coaching relationship takes place outside our appointments. Client begins to make different choices and see their lives through a different lens.
Where do we Coach? What if I don’t live near you?
Statistics say a whopping 95 per cent of life coaching sessions take place on the telephone, rather than in person. The majority of my clients work with me on the phone, but some do Skype and a few coach in person, at my home, or in coffee shops or local parks where we walk.
The Bottom Line
I guide people to get where they want to go. Wherever that is. Even if you don’t know where that is right now, you don’t need a magic ball to answer that question. The good news is that all the answers are in you, and with my assistance, you can uncover them and start living today making choices that result in you feeling happier and more fulfilled then yesterday. I have practical tools for you to become unstuck, make choices that you align with and that will help you stake out a claim on the life you are here to live.
