Artists Workshops

As a professional singer for over twenty years and a Certified Life Coach I am excited to be offering workshops for young artists programs geared to developing the inner skills needed to work and live as an artist and not just making a living as an artist.

As a graduate of several young artist programs including the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble and the Merola Program of San Francisco Opera I have a passion for the young artist and their challenges.   While young artists need, and are keen,  to receive vocal lessons, fencing, ballet, acting, yoga, Pilates classes, career counseling in terms of agents, head shots, and the business of the business, what guidance do they receive in how to live their lives fully and happily as artists and the unique challenges they face?

Since the 1920’s sports psychology has been a force in addressing the particular needs of high performance athletes.  Most recently the business world has capitalized on these skills and we are now seeing movement towards fitness and finally, the performing arts.

Objectives:

  • To provide tools to guide the artist in effectively naming career and life goals.  What is does success mean to them as an individual?
  •  Working with their goals, I emphasis  “what” and “why”, rather than the overwhelming dialogue of “how”.
  • Guide them to resonant powerful perspectives to dealing with stressful performance and work situations with success.
  • Acquaint them with their inner critic and provide tools to manage this dialogue.
  • Develop within them an awareness of their freedom to live and create in full choice whether in career or personal life.  Give real tools to set and achieve life and career goals starting today.

I have given these classes to the young artists at Pacific Opera Victoria, Emerging Artists at Calgary Opera, St, Andrews Vocal Intensive and Opera Nuova with great success. Many artists, at all career levels, continue to come to me and confirm the importance of the life skills from my course that have made positive changes in their careers.

Testimonials from past Living the Resonant Life workshop participants:

I realized that making thinks happen in my future is attainable and there are little things I can do everyday to reach my big goals.

I enjoyed Rebecca’s enthusiasm, sense of humour and general disposition.  I feel it rubbed off on everyone!”

This workshop was AMAZING.  Really useful for developing artists.

I really didn’t think it would help me.  I’m not a “The Secret” type of person and I am surprised and very pleased how much it changed me.  Thank you!

I realized it is ok to dream big and not always account for “the hard facts of life”  I deserve to dream big!  She asks you to reflect, which provides a greater depth in all you do-makes it genuine and valuable

This work really helped me find out what my goals are.

I found everything equally useful and in the most positive way.  I now feel I have tools to help with my success in my life.

What struck me as important about this work for developing artists is the chance to think of clear goals and values as important as these are life shaping elements and are not often discussed in the university or conservatory setting

Thank you for being an honest fire to start the fire of creativity and art in our souls, please keep doing what you are doing! Thank you Thank you!

I thought this was going to be bullshit, but it was absolutely excellent!  Bravo!

This class really opened my eyes on what is important to me and what I see as a happy life and career.  Thank you

I thought this was fantastic, and that this is the sort of work that should be done with singers on the first day of their undergrad.

I loved all the exercises we did.  They were all illuminating and something I would have been frightened of 4 days ago.  You set up a very supportive atmosphere.  Thanks!

This was truly an answered prayer.  This work took me to a place I was afraid to go.  This was the most introspective experience I’ve had in years.  You are truly talented.  Thank you so much.
